We've Got Answers
to all your questions.

(Well, not all of them. We can’t figure out #4 on that ECON final either.)

What is Alight?

It’s a high-quality Riverside apartment community designed especially with University of California students in mind. Alight features spacious, furnished apartments plus a full set of community features such as a 24-hour fitness center, pool and hot tub, study and gaming spaces and an attached parking garage, all just minutes from the UCR campus.

Is Alight part of the University of California, Riverside?

No. Alight is a privately owned and professionally managed community. Click here for more information about the management and ownership.

Can I live with friends, or can you match me with roommates?

You can select your roommate(s), or you can apply on your own and we can match you with other students. Applicants answer a short list of lifestyle questions to help in the matching process.

What are per-person contracts?

Instead of requiring all roommates to sign a joint lease, each person at Alight has their own individual contract, with one person per bedroom. This means you are only responsible for paying for yourself — not your roommates. Even if a roommate moves out or other bedrooms in your apartment are empty, you only pay the rate for your bedroom. Click here to see a sample Housing Agreement.

What is included in the rate?

Each resident at Alight pays a flat rate that includes:

  • Furnishings
  • Wi-Fi Internet
  • In-unit laundry
  • Community features – fitness center, pool and hot tub, study rooms, etc.
What size are the apartments?

The spacious accommodations at Alight include 2 and 4 bedroom floorplans, with a private bathroom for each bedroom. Please visit our website to view the available floorplans and square footage of our apartments.

Are the apartments furnished?

Yes, all apartments at Alight have a furniture package that includes a full-size bed, stackable dresser, desk and chair in each bedroom, plus a sofa, arm chair, coffee table and mounted 42” flat-panel TV in each living room. All residences also include a kitchen table and chairs.

When do the contracts start and end?

The standard term is September 17, 2024 to August 25, 2025, with payments made in 12 equal installments. Limited alternate dates may be available; please inquire with our staff. Click here to see a sample Housing Agreement.

Is a co-signer or financial guaranty required?

Within 7 days after a Housing Agreement is signed, each resident is required to provide a qualifying guarantor (often a parent).  However, a resident may choose to prepay the final 2 installments and request a waiver of this guarantor requirement.  In limited cases, we may also waive the guarantor requirement if a resident has sufficient income of their own.

Can I pay by credit card?

Yes. Residents can pay online 24 hours per day, by credit card or ACH electronic checking. Alight also offers automatic payment by either credit card or checking account — just fill out one page, one time and payments will be made automatically. Convenience fees apply for credit card and debit card payments.

Will my financial aid cover charges at Alight?

Your living costs at Alight can be covered by financial aid, just like on-campus housing. Any available financial aid funds, after university charges are satisfied, are released to the student for non-institutional expenses, such as off-campus housing. These funds can be used to pay charges at Alight. Normal payment deadlines will continue to apply.

Is Alight open to non-students?

Nearly all the residents at Alight are students at University of California or Riverside and the per-person contracts are also designed with students in mind. Residents/families with children are welcome. There is no extra cost for minor children in the care of adult residents, other than regular charges for each bedroom space selected by the resident. A minor occupying a bedroom space rented by a parent, guardian or person with legal custody is not considered a breach of the Housing Agreement or a violation of the rules. Alight is an Equal Opportunity housing provider and welcomes applications from non-students. In order to match student roommates in shared apartments, we will request roommate consent for any non-student occupants.

What kind of safety and security are provided?

Alight has a monitored fire sprinkler system, plus electronic locks and individually locking bedroom doors. Community courtesy patrols are provided at select times. Management staff are also on-site and can be reached by a 24-hour phone number.

What are the policies on pets, smoking and guests?

Alight is a no-pets community. The community is smoke-free in all indoor and adjacent areas. Guests are welcome at all times, subject to the consent of roommates and security considerations. Overnight guests are welcome, with limits on the number of days and guests.

Can I park my vehicle at Alight?

Alight offers garage and reserved parking for a small additional charge.

What other transportation options will I have?

Alight is only a few minutes walk or bike-ride from campus. Four RTA bus routes also stop right across the street and run to the UCR campus and downtown every six to 30 minutes; UCR students ride free.

Can I see a model apartment?

Although we do not currently have a model apartment, we offer a virtual tour that can be viewed here. You can also request an appointment for a personal tour, or just stop by to see us and we’ll be happy to show you the community.
